The Goldenrod is a type of wildflower, and is so named because the yellowy golden flowers grow along its stem similar to a golden rod.

Goldenrod seeds grow especially late in the season, and grow rather fast, giving the late season butterflies something to carry with them to winter.

Although goldenrods prefer dry soil, they can easily adapt to higher amounts of water without damage to the plant.
